Due Diligence

November 5th:

Replaced the dead battery with a
Yuasa Y60-N24AL-B cross referenced 19Ah ETX16L AGM made by Deka/East Penn for $69 from Autozone; less than half the price of the direct replacement $179.99 BMW 61212346800 / Exide 61.21-2 346 800 Gelbatterie. The engine starts right up.

A good source for batteries is Digi-key.

Bled the front brakes and discovered the Magura front master cyclinder is leaking. The rear brakes are fine.

Replaced both crush washers on the banjo bolts, and promptly ordered a 20mm rebuild piston kit from Beemer Boneyard .

Used ATE Super Blue DOT4 Brake Fluid, $14/Litre from Pegasus Auto Racing Supply.

Changed the motor oil: Castrol GTX 20W50 based on recommendations from Jeffrey DiCarlo's oil report . The motor oil came out fine, not burnt, and no evidence of metal. Bob is the Oil Guy is an excellent reference.

I used a Bosch 3330 filter ($3.89 at Rock Auto) and a OEM/76 mm. dia. oil filter "B" cap wrench (Part #25401) which was $20 less expensive that the BMW Mann wrench (Part #5524017)

Video: K75 change oil. Same procedure applies to K1100LT. Thanks to Dion AKA djverhulst for posting this video on YouTube.

Inspected all electrical wiring, signals, cooling system, suspension, tire pressure and wear, worked clutch and transmission through all 5 gears. Ted Verrill's K-Bike buying guide provides excellent checklist to follow. Added Stabil and Chevron Technon fuel injector cleaner to fuel. Fred Rau's report on Motorcycle Consumer News is an excellent resource on the effectiveness of oil and fuel additives.
